Shouting Chinoiserie

Some of my all time favorite rooms contain hints of chinoiserie throughout. I think the best tip for this style is small portions: a little chinoise can go a long way because pieces and modes of décor are so bold. Wallpaper is usually the first thing I think of when I imagine my French salon of 19th century chinoiserie. Muraled wallpapers with drawn landscapes can be really hip and add a whole other dimension to the any room. Cherry blossoms and other delicate yet colorful florals are also another great choice for wall coverings. A whole room full of Asian décor, in my opinion, could be overwhelming so adding a trunk, an armoir, or even a large folding screen are great ways to accent the room. Other smaller décor items include hanging scrolls, foodogs, lanterns and porcelain vases. A goal of mine is to use chinoiserie wall paper with a thoroughly contemporary interior. I haven’t truly found one that works[1] in a way I had hoped. What do you think about contemporary chinoiserie?
